This NTUC FairPrice outlet is one of the better ones in the Tampines area, as it usually has all the sale items still available when other outlets, like the one in Tampines Mall, run out quickly.
It's also a very pleasant outlet because the crowd isn't too big, making it easy to locate items and make purchases.
OTH outlet is spacious, neat, and clean, with a lot of varieties and sometimes good promotions. However, I'm reducing stars because I'm irritated by their self-checkout staff. They keep asking customers, "Do you need a plastic bag? Scan to pay for it." Sometimes I see her asking how many plastic bags they paid for. She asked me too, and I told her I had paid for the plastic bag. Then I showed her my receipt, and she said, "No need, I trust you" (please!). If you trust me, then don't bother to ask. Other outlets don't do that. OTH Manager, if you are so concerned about plastic bag payments, you may follow Cold Storage's style: have your staff hold onto the plastic bags and give them to customers when they show proof of payment.
Aunty Carol Tay is so helpful and friendly. She advises us on what types of cold or dry food items should be put in different recycled bags! She always makes my Saturday morning grocery shopping very happy and vibrant! Thanks, Aunty Carol, for your great, friendly service at the counter! See you again!
"Quite a huge supermarket located in the basement of Tampines Hub. There are a lot of items throughout the store, and it being open 24 hours is pretty nice. You can also buy bento boxes at the entrance. It's clean and well-maintained, and there are a lot of products on discount. 👍 The self-checkout worked well, too."
"First time trying the WBH outlet at OTH for lunch. The staff is friendly, and the menu looks good. Drinks were served really quickly. The waiting time for food was acceptable. They also have free keropok (crackers). Come and try it! 😁"
Tried it because I was craving fried rice, but I ended up ordering the signature bee hoon instead. Taste-wise, it wasn't bad; the bee hoon gravy was really flavorful, and there was quite a lot of fresh seafood. The side dish (prawn rolls) was good value for the money, as the portion was huge and served piping hot. The crabmeat fried rice was a bit disappointing, as I couldn't really detect the crab, unlike the photo, which showed a generous portion of crab placed on top. The taste was okay though, and the fried rice was very fragrant. Food was served super quickly on a Sunday; we got everything in about five minutes. I liked the sambal chilli.
Visited on December 29th at 3pm. First impression: staff etiquette is clearly lacking. There was no acknowledgement of arriving customers, hardly any eye contact, no verification of the food ordered. Staff were sitting at the front table drinking and using their phones after delivering food to customers. The saving grace was a perfunctory "thank you" after payment. The restaurant was warm and stuffy. Food-wise, it was very average; I would rather try the nearby food center than return again.
