Free Bangsawan Kencana Sakti at Wisma Geylang Serai, 15 August 2026
Wisma Geylang Serai hosts the first-ever Bangsawan theatre performance on its premises with Bangsawan Kencana Sakti, a traditional Malay drama directed by Cultural Medallion recipient Nadiputra Almahdi. The free-admission show runs on Saturday, 15 August 2026, from 8pm to 9.30pm at Persada Budaya, the cultural hall within Wisma Geylang Serai.
Bangsawan Kencana Sakti tells a tale of secrets, warring kingdoms, betrayal, sacrifice, and a battle for the rightful heir. The performance carries the theme lyrics "Semerah darah bila menyalaya, Sedar daging hilang hala," reflecting the traditional Bangsawan art form's rich storytelling tradition.
The event forms part of Budaya Milik Kita, a cultural campaign by Wisma Geylang Serai held in conjunction with Bulan Bahasa 2026. Entry is free and open to all, and a livestream is available for remote viewing.
